Yes, the Explorer I Router can connect to Wi-Fi as WAN hot spots or captive portals.
You are permitted to disable Wi-Fi as WAN in general if you wish, however it is not recommended to do so.
The Explorer I Router has the ability to disable either 2.4 GHZ or 5 GHz Wi-Fi as WAN operations.
The Routica Mobile App has the ability to scan for available Wi-Fi as WAN (hot spot) networks. This scan will only display networks in your vicinity and those that are broadcasting their SSID’s

Yes. In the Routica Mobile App, navigate to the WAN->Wi-Fi->Other Networks screen. Tap the Add New button and proceed.
The Explorer I Router will adopt and use the same channel of the Wi-Fi as WAN network you connect to, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
This is due to the fact that the Explorer I Router must use the same channel as your connected Wi-Fi as WAN network. However, your router may be using a different channel and/or band which requires you to manually reconnect the smartphone back to the Explorer I Router.
Using the Routica Mobile App with the Explorer I Router and according to your needs, you may select the connection priority to be best Signal Strength or Fastest Wi-Fi Speed.
The Routica Mobile App has the ability to display all the Wi-Fi as WAN connections that have been saved for your router. From the WAN->W-Fi screen on the Routica Mobile App, this area will display your stored connections.
